- Keep it at our hands so it is available any time
- Drink enough water so our skin and lips are well hydrated.

What makes the best lip balm?
Whether you want to make your own lip balm or you prefer to buy one make sure you check the ingredients first. Avoid lip balms with chemicals such as parabens, petrolatum, BHA (used as a preservative in many commercially sold lip balms), artificial fragrances and flavours.
The way to go when making or buying your perfect lip balm is to search for natural ingredients such as coconut oil, cocoa butter, beeswax, oils, vitamin E alternatively essential oils.
Just simply switch from paraben based lip balms to real natural lip balms and you are on the right path to having the best lip balm for your lips.

So what are the ingredients:
Rosehip seed oil
packed with fatty acid and vitamins A, C and E rosehip seed oil brings many medicinal benefits to the skin. While Vitamin C helps with cell regeneration, Vitamin A encourages its growth. Well known for its anti-ageing properties, rosehip seed oil make the lips vibrant and glowing. If you suffer from discolouration of your lips or you want to lighten them up, rosehip oil possesses astringent properties that tighten up the skin and brighten the colour of your lips. It’s moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties help the lips to heal faster from cracks and dryness (1)
Rosehip oil appears in many skincare care products I have made in the past such as this eye cream or homemade soap with rosehips
Coconut oil
I use coconut oil wherever I can as I like its smell, texture and properties. I was glad to discover its liquid version (coconut oil fractionated) so I can infuse herbs in it too. Coconut oil is not only great moisturizer for our skin but I use it when cooking too. Anyway, when we apply coconut oil on the lips it creates a lipid layer that locks the moisture and decreases evaporation. It works well for dry and chapped lips that are sensitive to moisture loss.
Beeswax
A natural wax produced by bees, beeswax is very often used in the cosmetic industry to make lip balms, lip gloss, salves and other moisturizers mainly for its moisturizing properties. Discover other beeswax uses such as moustache wax, for polishing furniture or for making candles.
For our lip balm, it’s important that It gives the lip balm perfect texture and that it possesses with antibacterial as well as anti-inflammatory properties (2). Beeswax also contains natural emulsifiers that keep the lips from drying out further.
Homemade lip balm recipe
We need to start with making rosehip oil, respective collect the rosehips first. If you want to skip this step you can purchase the rosehip seed oil here.

We will need to use double boiler to place all the ingredients in there and gently melt the mixture till the beeswax and coconut oil melt. Warm it up very gently and slowly stir.

Once the mixture is consistent you can add vitamin E or any essential oils of your choice – just a few drops to add fragrance (Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Sweet Orange, peppermint, lemon, lime or just keep it natural as we did.

Now comes the important part to come up with the right consistency of the mixture so it is easy to fill in the lip balm tubes. I like it a little bit densier so let it cool down a little bit. If it is too dense you can always put it back to double boiler and warm it up a bit.

Once you fill up your containers you need to wait for another 30 minutes to get the right structure of lip balm and you can enjoy it.
Now you made around 4 lip balm tubes, look what can you do with it
