When you want to try something new, it’s always handy to have the opinion of people you can trust. With my large family and many people around me who are always happy to try my homemade creations and give me valuable feedback is easy to experiment.
I made this homemade rose face cream a Christmas gift for all my female family members. It’s not that this cream would not be suitable for men. It’s just its pinkish color and rose fragrance that distinguishes it for a female audience.
I have got very positive feedback, so I am happy to share it with you.

Since I started to use roses in my homemade cosmetics, I have been overwhelmed with their benefits, pleasant aroma, and luxurious feeling. They are not only lovely to smell and touch, but they also can lift your spirit and mind.
This rose facial toner is a keeper that I make in small batches in different variations. So as this rose soap and rose lip balm.
Rose cream or rose salve recipe?
you might notice that I have been making lavender salve, elderflower salve, or dandelion salve in the past. Why do we call this rose cream and not a rose salve recipe?
Rose salve contains just oily ingredients such as rose-infused or essential oils and beeswax. Rose cream recipe, on the hand, has water, in our case, rose water, making the cream lighter. However, it requires adding two more ingredients.
Emulsifying agent
Adding a water base to this rose water cream recipe calls for an agent that will allow both water and oil bases to blend. This makes the rose cream less oily than salve but has a shorter shelf life.
Lanolin is a natural product derived from sheep wool. It contains large amounts of fat and prevents water evaporation from the skin (transepidermal water loss). It keeps the skin hydrated and helps it heals. Lanolin acts simultaneously as an emulsifier that enables water-base (Rosewater), and oil base (rose-infused oil) to disperse in each other and create homogenously smooth DIY rose face cream.
For vegan alternatives, use Lecithin from soy, an excellent multifunctional natural emulsifier.

Preserving agent – Leucidal
Creams have water and therefore need a preserving agent, Leucidal Liquid SF.
Using preservatives is necessary to keep this rose water cream recipe stable, and free of any mold or spoilage. If you want to go preservative-free, you have to use the cream within 2-3 months. Moreover, it should be refrigerated.
Created by the fermentation of Lactobacillus, Leucidal liquid SF is one of the best natural moisturizing, antimicrobial additives that protect against bacteria, mold, and yeast.
Other Ingredients
Rosewater
I used Rosewater in this recipe for its great medicinal benefits for the skin. It reduces redness, has a toning effect, balances the skin pH, and may help with psoriasis, eczema, or acne.
Rosewater is easy to prepare. All you need are chemical-free rose petals and distilled water.
Alternatively, you can purchase rose water here.

Rose oil
The oily part is made of Rose infused oil that effectively increases the skin tone, relaxes and cleanses, nourishes, and regenerates the skin.
The rose-infused oil is also easy to make once you have the right rose petals at your disposal. Selection of the carrier oil and infusion method are essential steps in this project.

Beeswax
Beeswax possesses anti-inflammatory properties helping in wound healing. It is also protective in helping form a barrier between the skin and the environment without clogging pores. In addition, it’s high in vitamin A, which is responsible for supporting cell reconstruction.
For a vegan alternative, use half as much candelilla wax instead of beeswax.
This rose cream is excellent to use as a day or night cream. I also use it as a toner, balancing the pH and moisturizer that keeps my skin smooth and soft.
This rose cream is excellent to use as a night cream and as a toner, balancing your pH and at the same time moisturizer that is keeping your skin smooth and soft.
Rose essential oil
I like to add a few drops of Rose absolute that give this homemade rose face cream a unique rose fragrance.
Rose cream recipe
First step
Place beeswax in the double boiler, wait till it melts, and add coconut oil and lanolin. Mix it well and remove it from the heat.
Second step
Wait for the mixture to cool down to 50 C (120 F) and pour in rose oil. Mix it till you have a homogenous mixture. Warm it up again in the double boiler if needed.
Third step
Slowly warm the rose water to 50 C (120F) in the pan.
Fourth step
Use a hand mixer and gradually pour warm rose water into the mixture while whisking at a steady pace until the mixture cools down.
Fifth step
add Leucidal liquid into the mix and continue whisking
Sixth step
Lastly, add rose essential oil
Seventh step
transfer the cream into a sterilized jar with a lid, label it and store it refrigerated.

The oil and water base presence makes this rose water face cream less stable in its shelf life. With preservative Leucidal, this DIY rose face cream stays well for over six months. If you want to prolong the shelf life, keep it in a refrigerator. Ideally, make smaller batches to keep the cream fresh and safe to use.

That’s beautiful! I honestly don’t know what I’d do without my immersion blender – I use it for everything. Now I know I can use it for this, too!
Wow, this is such a beautiful cream! I am going to have to remember this at Christmas time – it would make a lovely gift! Is there a natural preservative that you would recommend to help make it last longer? Thanks again for the awesome recipe!
Hi Kaylee, I used beeswax as a natural preservative in this recipe. If you keep it in the fridge it can last well over 3 months. But you will use before that.
This sounds so luxurious and lovely! Thanks so much for sharing!
We have rose bushes outfront, but I am not sure of their care prior to the past few years. If they were GMO (not even sure if that is a thing) or treated with chemicals more than 4 years ago, would that be bad?
Also, I have been searching for a source of lanolin from organically and humanely raised animals. Do you know of any?
Hi Emily, I found one company that has lanolin from free-range sheep here https://www.vermontcountrystore.com/pure-lanolin-moisture-balm/product/61420
If the rose bushes near you were not sprayed with chemicals for more than 1 year I would not be worried to use their rose petals in the natural skin products. Most of the herbicides are designed to evaporate within a couple of months.
I’ve never used rose cream but I definitely want to try this!
I love rose anything on my face and body!! This cream sounds just amazing. What a perfect Mother’s day gift. I am going to make this recipe with my rose petals this summer. Thanks for sharing!
I made it as a Christmas gift and it was a great success. I am sure your mom would love it! Let me know how it went.
I love the sound of this recipe, but coconut oil tends to clog my skin. Is there something I could use in place of it?
Thank you
Dear Tara, thank you for reaching out. You are right coconut oil is comedogenic especially if you have oily skin. Hemp seed oil, argan oil or shea butter could be an alternative.

Hello, just wondering how to make the rose oil? Can we infuse oil with the roses as well and how long do you recommend we let the water and oil
infuse for?
Hi Abigail, thanks for reaching out! Here is a whole article on how to make rose oil. I am at your disposal if you have any further questions. Vladka

Can any type of rose be used or is there a specific one? Where can I find roses online if I cannot get them fresh? Thank you.
Hi Eva,
You can use any type of rose petals just make sure they are not treated with a pesticide. You don’t want these to end up on your skin. These https://amzn.to/33LAwvs from Starwest botanicals are very good quality but feel free to chose any organic rose petals.
I want to try this how can i order this product.
I don’t sell this product just advise how to make it on your own.
Hello, I can’t see where to use the lenolin in this recipe or how much to use?
Thanks
hi Tania,
I had fixed it. Thanks
Hello, I have made this recipe and it seemed over a period of a week the cream went from light pink to a brownish tint. looked like the color of the grapeseed oil. I am curios If I was to use Beet Powder how much can be used just to get it to stay pink?
Hi Tabitha,
not sure what could have happened as I haven’t experienced the same. It could be many factors from color of the rose water or almond oil. Hard to say. You can try to add a bit of beetroot powder which dissolves well in the water part of the cream but not in the oily part. Thus might leave some stains. Try in the small quantity first to see the result. Good luck.
Thank You. I used Grapeseed oil no almond oil. The Roses and Rose water I make is the color of Mohogany Red. Thank You for your feedback. I will keep trying.
Hi Tabitha, I think the color of cream depends on the color of your roses rather than kind of carrier oil you used.
I’m curious; in the instructions for ” How to make Rose Cream for glowing skin you list Rose infused oil and Rose essential oil. I was unable to find a link doe the Rose infused oil. What is the difference between these two ingredients?

You will find the paragraph in there dedicated to the difference between rose infused oil and rose absolut oil.
If I replace the coconut oil with Hempseed oil, Argan oil, or Shea butter should I use the 56 grams of eithter oil replacements?
Hi Vikki, You can replace the coconut oil in this rose cream recipe with Hempseed oil, Argan oil, or Shea butter, and use the same amount of 56 grams for the replacement. However, each of these alternatives has its unique texture and properties. Hempseed and Argan oils are liquid oils and will produce a lighter cream, while Shea butter is solid at room temperature and may yield a thicker consistency.
Thank you for your response. I just made this recipe with Hemp oil . With all that discussion about Rose oil, I forgot to add it to this batch, lol. I’m hoping it won’t affect the quality. I will say that the cream though smooth and wonderful smelling came out green:) Was that due to replacing the Coconut butter with Hemp oil? For the future what could I add to get that beautiful pink coloring I see in your photos?
I used a rose water that made it pink in color.
