Enhance your morning routine by mastering the art of preparing the perfect cup of lemon cinnamon water and uncovering its potential health benefits.

This is a relatively simple recipe that anyone can master, and what’s more, it uses ingredients that most people have in their pantry. Is it such a powerful combination? Let’s delve deeper into the science and determine if it’s worth a try.

Cinnamon is one of my favorite Christmas spice, and I have been experimenting with creating cinnamon extract, crafting cinnamon tea cakes, or simply brewing cinnamon into a tea. Furthermore, I have been combining it with ginger to make Ginger Lemon Cinnamon Tea.

This time, however, I want to transform it into a delectable cinnamon-infused water that will impress you with its flavor and health benefits.

Can this cinnamon and lemon water help you lose weight?

What is lemon cinnamon water?

Lemon-cinnamon water is a drink made by infusing fresh lemon slices and cinnamon sticks or ground cinnamon in water for a certain period. The resulting infused water takes on the refreshing taste of lemon with a hint of warm, spicy cinnamon sweetness and its medicinal benefits.

Cinnamon Lemon water Ingredients

Cassia or Ceylon Cinnamon?

There are two main cinnamon varieties: cassia and Ceylon. Cassia cinnamon is common in the United States, darker, and stronger in flavor, but it has higher coumarin levels, which can harm the liver. It’s recommended to use Ceylon cinnamon (true cinnamon) instead. Ceylon has a milder, sweeter taste and much lower coumarin levels.

Use ground Cinnamon or cinnamon sticks?

You can use both cinnamon powder or cinnamon sticks. One teaspoon of ground cinnamon dissolves quickly and provides a strong cinnamon flavor without the need for straining. On the other hand, cinnamon sticks impart a subtler and milder cinnamon taste, are reusable for multiple batches, and can add an aesthetic appeal to your drink.

Lemon

Use any fresh lemon you have at your disposal. I prefer to infuse lemon slices with peel for a more intense citrus flavor and additional nutrients and antioxidants found in the peel. However, it may make your beverage a bit bitter. if you plan to use the lemon peels, opt for organic to avoid any pesticides in the peel.

What Are The Potential Benefits Of Lemon Cinnamon Water?

Incorporating lemon cinnamon water into your daily routine may provide a flavorful and healthful way to enjoy these potential benefits. However, it’s essential to consult with a healthcare professional before making significant dietary changes, especially if you have specific health concerns or conditions.

Antioxidant-Rich:

Lemon cinnamon water contains antioxidants, found in both lemon and cinnamon, which can combat free radicals in the body. These antioxidants may help reduce the risk of chronic diseases like cancer and heart disease.

Immune-Boosting:

Lemon is a good source of vitamin C and flavonoids that play a key role in supporting a healthy immune system. Drinking lemon cinnamon water may help boost the immune system and protect against infections, according to research.

Lowers Cholesterol Levels:

Consuming lemon cinnamon water has been linked to improved blood lipid profiles and reduced cholesterol levels. This can contribute to a reduced risk of heart disease and better overall heart health, as confirmed by this study.

Lowers Blood Sugar:

Cinnamon in the infusion can help regulate blood sugar levels and reduce insulin resistance. A study published in the journal Metabolism found that cinnamon supplementation improved fasting blood sugar levels and may lower the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and enhance metabolic health.

Improves Blood Circulation:

Ginger is known for its ability to enhance blood circulation, which can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Improves Brain Function:

Cinnamon may improve memory and attention. These benefits for brain health are substantiated by research.

Aid Digestion:

Cinnamon may have mild digestive benefits. It can help reduce gastrointestinal discomfort and inflammation, which can contribute to smoother digestion. Lemon juice, with its acidity, may stimulate the production of digestive enzymes, which can aid in the breakdown of food and enhance the overall digestive process.

Similar effect has also this apple cider vinegar and lemon juice beverage.

Cinnamon has anti-inflammatory properties:

Cinnamon contains cinnamaldehyde that may help reduce inflammation in the body, although the effects can vary depending on the dosage and individual factors.

What Are The Potential Benefits Of Lemon Cinnamon Water?

Can this cinnamon and lemon water help you lose weight?

Lemon cinnamon water is often promoted as great for weight loss, but scientific evidence supporting this claim is limited. While some ingredients like cinnamon and lemon have potential benefits related to reduced body weight, their effects are generally modest. Cinnamon may help with appetite control and metabolism, but these effects alone are unlikely to lead to significant weight loss. For effective and sustainable weight management, it’s crucial to maintain a balanced diet, engage in regular exercise, and view lemon cinnamon water as a healthy addition to an overall lifestyle rather than a standalone weight loss solution.

There are two methods of preparing this lemon and cinnamon water.

Both offer the same potential health benefits; they differ in flavor intensity and the time it takes to infuse the water.

While warm water infusion allows for a quicker release of flavors and results in a more immediate and robust taste, cold water infuses the flavors gradually, producing a milder and subtly refreshing taste.

First step: Make warm water

Boil a pot of water, and then let it cool for a few minutes until it’s very warm but not boiling.

Cassia or Ceylon Cinnamon?

Second step: Prepare lemons

In the meantime, wash and prepare the lemons by slicing or wedging them. You can include or exclude the lemon peels.

Third step: Combine the ingredients and let it steep

In a pitcher or container, add the lemon slices or wedges and cinnamon sticks or ground cinnamon. Pour the warm water over the lemons and cinnamon.

Let the mixture steep for 5-10 minutes or longer for a stronger flavor.

Wash the lemons thoroughly and slice them, keeping the skin on.

Can I drink cinnamon water every day?

While cinnamon water can offer potential health benefits, it’s important to use cinnamon in moderation. Excessive consumption of cinnamon, especially the cassia variety, which is more common, may lead to an intake of high levels of coumarin, a compound that can be harmful to the liver in large quantities.

Consider alternating between different types of beverages and maintaining a balanced diet. Drinking a variety of liquids, including plain water, herbal teas, and infused waters, can help ensure a diverse intake of nutrients and flavors.

How to store it?

Store this healthy lemon water in the refrigerator and consume it within 24 hours. This habit not only helps you track your daily water intake but also ensures freshness. After this period, the lemon peel may impart a bitter taste, and the nutritional content diminishes. If desired, strain the water using a strainer or sieve before refrigerating to extend its shelf life for up to 2 days.”
