DIY castile soap face wash with chamomile

This soothing DIY castile soap face wash gently cleanses your face, removing dirt, oil, and impurities. Packed with calming chamomile, this chamomile face wash is also suitable for sensitive skin. 

Once I discovered herbal ways to take care of my skin and hair naturally, there was nothing that could stop me. I no longer need to go through many cosmetic products and read all the ingredients. Then finally select one and be surprised to pay a large sum at the cashier.

I found a much easier and more affordable way to keep my skin pretty and glowing and enjoy the process. It all starts with herbs, searching for what is flowering and what I can use it for.

Walking with my dog the other day, I noticed many chamomile flowers on the way. Knowing the calming and soothing effect of chamomile, I knew what I was going to make. 

This Chamomile facial cleanser is just perfect for calming and cleansing my skin.

Ingredients to make DIY castile soap face wash

Moreover, this homemade face wash with castile soap uses natural ingredients that are easy to get, or even you might already have them at home

Castile soap

Plant-based castile soap deeply cleans and without any sulfate lathers naturally. This gentle cleanser is suitable for sensitive skin and perfect for oily or acne-prone skin. Castile soap hydrates, moisturizes, soothes, and smooths dry and irritated skin.

You can purchase it online, but I prefer to buy it at a health food store where they refill my container. It is a cheaper and zero-waste option that I opt for.

Chamomile for skin

Chamomile belongs to one of the most soothing herbs with healing and anti-inflammatory properties that has been used for centuries inside the body and out.

Its calming properties and beautiful floral aroma make chamomile one of the best herbs of choice for beauty and skincare products. That is also why I selected this herb to use in this homemade foaming face wash that quickly became a part of my daily routine.

Chamomile is in this recipe used in two various forms. 

Chamomile infused oil

Chamomile oil is made by macerating dried chamomile flowers in a carrier oil for several weeks allowing the herb to relieve its medicinal properties in the oil. The final chamomile-infused oil carries the potent chemical compounds of chamomile.

Chamomile essential oil

Chamomile essential oil is optional in this recipe however it is the most gentle essential oil that gives additional benefits to this chamomile facial cleanser. Such as soothing and anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe red and irritating skin, acne, pimples, and even sunburn. It also smells great leaving your skin smooth and glowing.

Raw honey

Raw honey has antibacterial properties and is often used for acne-prone skin however it also speeds up your skin cells’ healing processes and reduces inflammation. In addition, Raw honey is also a natural exfoliator, that takes off dry, dull skin and reveals new skin cells underneath.

Glycerin

Known as a humectant, glycerin moisturizes the skin by drawing water from the atmosphere to hydrate and soften the skin

When you combine all these ingredients you will get full of goodness a natural DIY face wash that is hypo-allergenic, free of any chemicals, paraben-free, sulfate-free and suitable for any skin type.

making chamomile-infused oil

While you can buy chamomile oil online I like to make things from scratch and therefore start with foraging chamomile and making chamomile oil.

First step

It is important to get familiar with chamomile and be able to identify it. collect 1/3 cup of chamomile flowers and set them to dry or at least wilt for 1-2 days to get rid of the most moisture that could spoil the oil. Alternatively, purchase dried chamomile flowers online.

Second step

Select carrier oil of your choice, I was using virgin olive oil to suit my normal complexion. Use a sterilized jar and place the dried or wilted flowers in the jar.

Third step

Pour over the 1/2 cup of olive oil, so all the flowers are covered and emerged in the oil.

Fourth step

Close the jar and place it on a sunny spot for four weeks. During that time, shake the jar occasionally and make sure that the oil won’t evaporate.

Fifth step

Strain the herbal material through a cheesecloth, label it, and your chamomile-infused oil is ready.

Sixth step

Mix Chamomile infused oil, Castile soap, glycerin, raw honey, and Chamomile Essential Oil in a bowl and mix it well.

Seventh step

Third Pour the mixture into a pump bottle or any bottle with a lid, and your chamomile face wash is ready to use. Shake it gently before each use.

How to use this homemade foaming face wash

1. Squeeze a coin-sized amount onto your fingertips or these facial buff sponges and gently massage it onto your face. If you prefer a reusable option, I love to use these handmade absolutely adorable crocheted face scrubbing washcloths. 
2. Spread in circular motions and start at your hairline, continue to the sides of your nose
3. Apply gentle pressure to wake your skin’s natural circulation.
4. When you’re done, rinse and pat dry with a clean towel.
5. Use morning and/or evening for glowing, soothed skin.
6. This homemade face wash also serves as an effective method for how to clean makeup brushes.

Other Uses of natural DIY face wash

This chamomile facial cleanser also makes a great makeup remover! Just make sure it will not get into your eyes.

You can also use it as  DIY body wash. I always keep one bottle with a squirt top in the shower.
