This melt and pour Christmas spice soap contains spices that highlight the festive season. Made of natural ingredients and scented with an incredible blend of natural fragrances made these Christmas soaps a memorable gift.
The holiday season means spending time together with family and friends and creating memories. The flavor from spices delights our senses, bringing back memories and creating a special festive atmosphere. Can you imagine mulled wine without cinnamon or clove? Or turkey gravy without star anise? While Christmas spices make an unforgettable atmosphere, I decided to use them to make a memorable gift in this melt and pour Christmas spice soap.
Don’t forget to use these free Christmas gift tags to add a personal touch to your homemade gifts.
What does melt and pour soap mean?
While I love to make soaps from scratch (like this rose soap or soap with rosehips), sometimes I feel the melt and pour process is exactly what I need. You have an idea, you want to try, have immediate results and feedback. Melt and pour means that you use ready-made blocks of soap that are uncolored and unscented and you melt them. Then you add colors, fragrances, spices, flowers whatever you have in mind, pour it in a mold, and wait until it’s set. I love this process because you can easily remelt it and pour it again in case of error, and you don’t need to wait for several days for homemade soap to cure. It is also great for beginners. Another advantage is that you don’t have to deal with potentially dangerous lye.
Natural Melt and pour soap bases are available from online soap suppliers or craft stores.
Spice soaps
Rosemary soap
Rosemary is a typical herb for the Christmas season. Its aromatic scent and needle-like leaves make this herb perfect for holiday decor. But it is not by far used just for that. Simple rosemary tea or rosemary hair rinse are just a few examples of simple rosemary recipes. Its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial benefits are greatly used in this rosemary soap. Rosemary soap is nourishing and healing. Enhanced with rosemary essential oil rosemary soap is soothing and may help to reduce swelling of the skin.
Vanilla soap
One of the most popular spices in sweet baked goods vanilla provides specific flavors and scents and can be useful in homemade vanilla soap. Vanilla is rich in antioxidants that help to slow down signs of aging and rejuvenate the skin. Enhanced with vanilla essential oil it also smells lovely.
Saffron soap
The most expensive spice – saffron comes from the pistil of a beautiful purple crocus that grows mainly in Iran but also in Morocco or Spain. The number of crocuses needed to get 1kg of saffron one needs to have 150 000-200 000 flowers. These are harvested and sorted by hand thus the high price. While most people drink it as tea or use saffron water in cooking, feew knows about its benefits for skin.
Saffron is one of the most popular Christmas spices that also have remarkable benefits for the skin.
standing out from other spice soaps with its bright color, saffron soap hydrates the skin, leaving it smooth and free of any skin pigmentation.
Clove soap
I used cloves to make these Christmas pomanders that decorate my Christmas table every year. Clove however has been used as a purifying agent for minor cuts and insect bites. It makes an excellent foot soap that together with clove essential oil reduces odor and acts as a deodorant.
Star anise
Anise star gives a great holiday feel to Christmas soap. While its licorice flavor can enhance a variety of dishes it’s powerful bioactive compounds may help treat several fungal, bacterial, and viral infections. Enhance with anise essential oil this soap is a lovely addition to the spice soap collection
Cinnamon soap
while I love to use cinnamon when making mulled wine or in baking, cinnamon powder is also perfect to use in skincare. It contains active ingredients such as phenols and flavonoids that our skin can benefit from. I used cinnamon when making this scented pine needle oil for winter wellness.
Scented with cinnamon essential oil, cinnamon soap promotes collagen production and may help to improve elasticity of the skin. It also acts as a mild exfoliant and disinfectant with antibacterial properties.
These are great to incorporate into advent calendars for adults.
Melt and pour soap base
To make this melt and pour winter soap we will use two types of melt and pour soap bases
Goat milk soap base is natural, smooth and moisturizing. It is high in vitamin A and lactic acid, which help remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. I used it in these goat milk honey soap bars.
Transparent glycerin base which is also natural and moisturizing that creates protective barriers.
Christmas fragrance oils
When making these diy Christmas soaps you need to add Christmas fragrance to them to achieve desired result. You can either make one essential blend that you will use for all soap bars or add each soap bar different essential oil as per the spices used in.
If you decide to make one essential oil blend, these are the oils I used and the fragrance was pleasant and festive.
- 7 drops Cinnamon leaves essential oil optional
- 7 drops Clove essential oil
- 7 drops Orange Essential Oil
If you decide to use different essential oil for each spice soap bar add no more than 3-4 drops to each soap bar.
How to make Christmas spice soap
First step
Chop and melt goat milk Melt and Pour in the microwave using 30-second bursts or a double boiler.
Second step
Once completely melted, add either your essential oil blend to the mixture and mix it well.
Third step
Pour the melted soap base evenly into each mold cavity and spritz the top of the soap with rubbing alcohol to disperse any bubbles.
Fourth step
Set the soap aside to allow to cool and harden.
Fifth step
Once the goat milk base has cooled enough to develop a thick skin, arrange the spices – cinnamon, star anise, clove, vanilla, rosemary and saffron.
Sixth step
Chop and melt transparent Melt and Pour in the microwave using 20 second bursts.
Seventh step
Once the transparent soap is completely melted spritz the top of each soap with rubbing alcohol. Carefully pour a thin layer of clear soap on the top of each mold to just cover the spices. Immediately spritz with alcohol to disperse any bubble
Eight step
when the transparent base is still in liquid phase use a glass stick to arrange all pieces of spices perfectly
Ninth step
allow the Christmas spice soap to fully cool and harden.
Tenth step
Remove the soap from the mold and wrap each soap in plastic wrap or another airtight container.

This creamy DIY goat milk soap gently cleans, moisturizes, and helps support healthy skin and hair. This goat milk melt and pour soap recipe contains honey and honeycomb patterns that make it a beautiful DIY gift.
Materials
Tools
- Round bar soap silicone mold
- bubble wrap
Instructions
- Depending on the shape of your mold cut the same pieces of bubble wrap. Just leave a bit extra plastic to easily grab and pull the bubble wrap off when the soap is set. You can skip this step if you prefer to make just smooth surface soap without any pattern
- Chop and melt goat milk Melt and Pour in the microwave using 30-second bursts or a double boiler.
- Once completely melted, add honey, vitamin E, and lavender oil (or any oil of your choice)
- add coffee extract or essential oil of your choice
- Pour the melted soap base evenly into each mold cavity and spritz the top of the soap with rubbing alcohol to disperse any bubbles.
- Once you pour the melt and pour the mixture in the molds press a small piece of bubble wrap on the top and the honeycomb shape begins to form.
- Set the soap aside to allow it to cool and harden.
Notes
I first tried putting the bubble wrap in the bottom of the mold and pouring the soap mixture on top, but it did not work for me. The bubble wrap didn’t stay at the bottom but floated into the center of the soap. Placing bubble wrap on the top worked beautifully.
