With its fluffy texture, this DIY shaving cream recipe will quickly become your favorite, so you may never buy store-bought shaving cream again.

I am glad the old-fashioned wet shaving is back with the need for homemade shaving cream or shave butter. Wet shaves have many added benefits for the skin.

My husband is quite picky when selecting the best butter shaving cream. He searches for a shaving cream that creates a lather and leaves his skin silky smooth, not irritated.

He loves how well this shaving cream works! It turned his grooming routine into an enjoyable experience, and I am glad I could help.

But it is great for ladies too! If you have ever tried to shave on dry skin without butter shaving cream, you most probably experienced pimples that often popped up, and the skin stayed irritated and dry.

You can combine it with this foaming bath butter with real raspberries for the best shower experience.

Make your own Shaving Cream

This DIY shaving cream nourishes and hydrates the skin creating a protective layer between the skin and the razor.

In addition, this shaving butter recipe lifts the hairs, making them softer and easier to cut with the razor. Thus making your skin stay smooth for a longer time.

Whip some of this homemade whipped shaving cream up for yourself.

While some people use hair conditioner, body butter, baby oil, bar soap or even mayonnaise as shaving cream, make your own DIY shaving cream instead.

This lather shaving cream is both creamy and foamy!

based on a combination of oils, soap, and water, this homemade shaving cream ensures nutrition and softness.

I also added bentonite clay that makes a slippery surface, allowing the blade to glide easily over the skin.

shaving cream ingredients

One of the main differences between homemade shaving cream and shaving products in supermarkets is the type of ingredients used to make them. This leather shaving cream contains natural ingredients that not only produce a great lather and a comfortable shave but also help to soothe, nourish and moisturize the skin. Which In practice means less irritation, even for those with sensitive skin.

foaming bath whip (butter)

This Foaming whipped butter is gentle, paraben-free, and non-irritating, even for dry and sensitive skin. Made of natural ingredients, this whipped body butter contains healing and softening properties that hydrate the skin leaving it smooth and moisturized.

It is very easy to use, add it to the blender, and it will double its volume when whipped into a fluffy foam. You will love its consistency and excellent benefits for the skin.

Coconut oil

can be used as a shaving cream on its own. It provides a slippery surface for shaving, it is very moisturizing and possesses antibacterial as well as antiinflamatory properties

However, it won’t make a foam and leave your skin oily afterward; thus, the combination with whipped butter cleans your skin, leaving it soft and moisturized without leaving any oily residue.

Coffee extract

It gives rich flavor and aroma to any dessert or drink but also to your homemade cosmetics.

Bentonite clay

I added bentonite clay to this DIY shaving cream recipe to make a lather slicker so the razor can easily slip.  However, bentonite clay can also ensure even scent dispersion throughout the whole product. Moreover, bentonite clay sweeps away any skin impurities leaving your skin clear and refreshed.

Tips and Tricks to Making Easy Homemade Shaving Cream

  • I used cocoa extract for the fragrance as I like to chocolate flavor and found it suitable for both – men or women. You can combine essential oils to give the shaving soap even more depth. Man’s favorite fragrances are cedarwood, sandalwood essential oil , peppermint essential oil  or tea tree oil. Women on the other hand may prefer more floral fragrances such as lavender essential oil, rose essential oil, or jasmine essential oil. In addition to their scent, certain essential oils are good for the skin.
  • This DIY shaving cream makes a beautiful, handy, and handmade gift that makes happy who appreciate homemade natural skincare. Just label it beautifully, and your gift is ready!
  • You can substitute coconut oil with avocado oil, jojoba or almond oil.
  • you can substitute a foaming whipped butter with shea butter and coconut oil or combine coconut oil and mango butter. However, it won’t make a fluffy foam and leave your skin oily afterward. Moreover, it may clog your drain. Thus, the combination with whipped butter that cleans your skin, leaving it soft and moisturized without any oily residue, is ideal.

is shaving cream toxic?

Over-the-counter shaving creams are often packed with lathering chemicals that irritate the skin, such as sodium lauryl sulfate or emulsifier triethanolamine (a controversial toxin, according to the environmental working group). Making your own shaving cream enables you to be in charge of the ingredients you use. This DIY shaving cream is free of any harsh chemicals or artificial fragrances.  Made of natural ingredients, this shaving cream is gentle, moisturizing, and suitable for any skin type, with many skin benefits.

May I add water-soluble ingredients to the recipe, such as aloe vera gel or rose water?

This DIY shaving cream is made of oil-soluble substances that would not mix well with any water-soluble ones. You would have to use an emulsifier that enables the water base and oil base to disperse in each other and create a homogenous, smooth mixture.

Moreover, I suggest using preservatives in the case to keep it stable and free of any mold or spoilage.

How long does this DIY shaving cream last?

We didn’t use any water in this recipe, and the ingredients are stable; thus no need to use any preservatives. However, since this product is meant to be stored in the bathroom, ensure that water will not get into the jar. Keep the jar closed and use dry hands when removing the bit. Water presence may contribute to spoilage.

How to apply shaving cream?

Apply this DIY shave butter at the end of your shower routine. Warm and wet skin is softer and prevents razor burn and irritation. You can apply it all over your body, on your face, legs, armpits, or wherever is needed. Pump it into the palm of your hand, then rub with your fingertips a thin layer of DIY natural shaving cream on your face, legs, armpits, or wherever is needed. Enjoy the nice lather it creates.

Slowly begin your shaving routine, allowing the razor to glide nicely. That way, you will avoid redness, bumps or irritated skin. Rinse it well after you finish.
